Fishing sure is fun right now. Cant find the 16-19" fish, but we got the ends of the spectrum covered.
Last nite, we went out about 7pm. First stop, west of twin, nothing. I'm learning that that spot (f9) ONLY seems to like wind from the north. its ok...not complainin! next stop, back to the west shore of "hermans island" where MC and I had had some luck the nite before.
the fish were goin there the minute we pulled in. interestingly, we'd only get walleye when the boat was in 14 FOW again...just like earlier in the day at F9. closer to shore or the weedbed, and we'd just get bass. we were gettin one fish every 10 mins or so - all on the small side (10-14's). then at about 9 or 9:30, Dave catches / MC nets the big one flawlessly.
29 inches and over 8 lbs. MUCH fatter than the fish you see at the top of this website. Once our hands were done shaking...and we were done shaking hands... of course the spot was dead...but do you really think we cared? Nope...it was off to the lodge for official weighing, measuring, photographing and just plain admiring....ok...and some drinking.
We obviously made plans for this morning - and we were out there again about 6 hours later, watching the sun come up. F9 was still dead. Back to hermans island....bang...they were still there...but....this time even smaller. We had our fun with those and moved onto a couple other weedbeds that have been getting hit hard by the wind from the west. As the morning went on, the fishing got slower, but the fish got bigger...so we kept throwin the JSR5's, sticking around for the balance to indicate it was time to either head home or head out deep.
Our last spot (about 10 am) was the sand point stickin north out of the middle of Flat Island. After picking up a couple 15's there, we then opted for home....for a fish fry.
Between all the spots, we ended up catching about 20 walleyes...all from 10" - 15".
Lar
p.s. pls remember to release all walleye over 19 so that someday they CAN end up on a wall...like this 29".
