Report #1261 from lg3

Then-Current Conditions : 67F / 19C, Partly Cloudy - 10:53 AM CDT Jul. 29

ok....so i put my shoes and clothes outside to dry after the other nite's deluge.  they're still very wet two days later.  just too damp out.  which brings me to a (probably really dumb) question.

back in the day....before there were clothes dryers....of course, people used clothes lines to dry their clothes.  but what about in the winter, or when it was just cold/rainy out?

cant imagine they'd put them by a fire or wood stove.  that'd make em smell werser than they did before they were washed, right?

lar

Since i'm old enough to remember, the women still hung the clothes out in the winter. They would freez, but when the sun hit them, they would thaw out and dry. Yes, I remember when I had to walk to school 5 miles all up hill with holey shoes and pants with gapping holes in the knees....ECT. ECT.

While I'm not all that old, my mother is a "waste not, want not" In the winter she had a line in the boiler room where she hung towels and things like that up to dry. Anything that made the dryer run a long time to get it dry.

She also had a big plastic garbage can next to the washer and after the first rinse cycle got all the soap out she switched the hose to the garbage can, collected the rinse water and bucketed it into washer for the next wash load. Seriously!!

WATCH THEM LAZY MUTTS THIS WEEKEND: Conservation wardens are urging boaters to think twice before drinking while boating this weekend. Wisconsin is joining a national effort known as “Operation Dry Water,” and wardens and patrol officers will also be out in force looking for boat operators whose blood alcohol content exceeds the state limit of 0.08 percent. Alcohol use has become the leading contributing factor in fatal recreational boating accidents and was involved in 35 percent of the 20 boating fatalities in Wisconsin last year. Wardens will also be checking to make sure anglers are following rules intended to prevent the spread of the VHS fish disease and aquatic invasive species. A new public service announcement on tips for transporting fish [VIDEO Length 0:41] is available on the DNR Web site.

Lar do you want to use our dryer? And yep my mom hung clothes either outside or in the basement.... we didn't have a dryer until I was like 8. She also had a ringer washer... each piece of clothing had to go through the stupid ringer. She was in the basement alot when I was little.
